Privacy Policy

What this site collects, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask us to do about it. In plain English.

Last updated October 2026

The short version

  • We run no ads and use no advertising trackers. We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.
  • Google Analytics tells us which pages get read. It uses cookies and never gives us your name or email.
  • If you join the email list, send a message or leave a comment, we keep what you gave us to do that one thing.
  • Product links can take you to retailers like Amazon, who set their own cookies to credit a sale to us.
  • You can ask us to show, correct or delete what we hold about you at any time.

Who we are

Optimize Your Biology (optimizeyourbiology.com) is run by Derek Antosiek and Brent Baker. This policy covers this website only, not anything collected offline or on other sites we link to.

What we collect, and why

When you read the site

We use Google Analytics to see which pages people read, how they found them, and what device and browser they use, with an approximate location (country or city). It works with cookies. We use it to learn which articles help and which need work. We never see your name or email in it.

Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, page requested, time) to keep the site running and secure.

When you click a product link

We count clicks on product links: which link, on which page, and when. That count uses no cookies and records no IP address or anything else about you. If the link goes to a retailer, such as Amazon, the retailer may set its own cookie so the sale is credited to us; its privacy policy then applies.

When you join the email list

We keep your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and which form you used, in our own email system on this site. Emails are sent through Mailgun. You confirm before you’re added, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

When you send us a message

The contact form sends your name, email and message to whichever of us you choose, and keeps a copy on the site so we can reply and follow up.

When you leave a comment

We keep your name, email, comment, IP address and browser, which help catch spam; spam checks run on our own site. Your email address isn’t published. If you have a Gravatar, a scrambled version of your email is sent to Gravatar to show your picture next to the comment.

When you play a video

YouTube videos load only when you press play. From then on, YouTube’s privacy policy applies to that video.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t run ads, ad networks, or advertising pixels.
  • We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, or share it for anyone else’s marketing.
  • We don’t ask you to create an account.

Cookies

The cookies on this site come from Google Analytics, from the comment form if you ask it to remember your name, and, once you leave through a product link, from the retailer. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics.

Who else handles it

A few services handle data for us, only to provide the parts of the site described above:

  • Our web host, which stores the site and its server logs.
  • Google, for Google Analytics.
  • Mailgun, which delivers our emails.
  • Gravatar, for comment pictures.
  • Retailers and affiliate networks (such as Amazon, Awin and Impact), when you follow a product link. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how that works.

How long we keep it

Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Messages and comments are kept as long as they’re useful for replying or stay published. Analytics data is kept by Google under its retention settings.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • show you the personal information we hold about you, or send you a copy;
  • correct it, or complete it if it’s incomplete;
  • delete it;
  • stop or limit using it, including for email.

Under the GDPR (Europe and the UK) and the CCPA (California) these are legal rights. California residents also have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information; we don’t sell it. We’ll respond within one month.

Children

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us theirs, contact us and we’ll delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update it here and change the date at the top.

For anything about your data, use our contact page and we’ll take care of it.
