Our Standards
How we test, how we stay independent, and why you can trust what you read here. This is the standard every review on this site has to clear. If we ever fall short of it, tell us, and we will fix it.
Independence
What our commissions do not buy.
We are reader-supported. When you buy through a link on our site, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That is the entire business. And here is the part that matters: the commission has nothing to do with what we recommend.
We routinely pick products that pay us little or nothing, because they are simply the better product, and we would rather tell you the truth than make an extra dollar. When the best choice happens to be the one that earns us the least, that is the one we point you to.
No company pays us to review their product, to score it a certain way, or to place it above another. We do not sell rankings, and we never will. If we ever enter any kind of paid relationship with a brand, we will say so plainly, in the article where it matters.
The reader comes first
No ads. On purpose.
We run no ads. No banners, no pop-ups, no autoplay video, none of it. We could make thousands of dollars more every month by filling this site with advertising, and we deliberately walk away from that money.
The reading experience matters more to us. We spend a huge amount of time on design and clarity because we want this to be a place you actually enjoy using, not another cluttered affiliate site.

How we choose & test
We buy it, we test it, we tell you the truth.
We buy what we test
Most of what we test, we buy ourselves, with our own money, the same way you would. We start by finding the products that genuinely matter to a buying decision.
Sent does not mean endorsed
Sometimes a company sends us a product. A free unit buys nothing here. Plenty never get reviewed at all, because once we test them, they do not meet the bar.
We only recommend the best
We never recommend a product the data does not support, or one we would not spend our own money on. When something is not worth it, we say so plainly.

Weighted scores
Where a clear score helps you decide, we give you one, weighted across the factors that matter for that product.
Full databases
We publish databases with the hard measurements side by side, so you can see how every product stacks up.
Pros and cons
Every review gives you the good and the bad. If a device has real weaknesses, you will read about them.
A plain call
When something is worth it, we say so. When it is not, we say that just as plainly, and we tell you why.
Some products are excellent at one thing and poor at another. A SAD lamp might have a beautiful spectrum and still be useless for travel, so we score when it genuinely helps, and we tell you the trade-offs when it does not.
Who does the reviewing
We become the expert before we test.
We are not physicians, and for a lot of what we cover, there is no credentialed authority to hand you the answer. So we do the work ourselves, and we go deep. Before we test a single device, we spend weeks and often months studying the product, the technology inside it, and the science behind it, until we genuinely understand what actually needs to be measured. Only then do we design a methodology and start testing. Some of these projects run into hundreds of hours. Our continuous pulse-oximeter database alone took four months of near-daily work before it was ready to publish. We would rather take that long and get it right than hand you a fast, shallow review. We build on peer-reviewed science wherever it exists, and we cite it so you can follow it to the source.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it, promptly and openly, noted right on the article. Spot an error? Tell us.
Kept current
We date our articles so you know when a product was tested, and we refresh coverage as new products arrive.
Made by humans
We run every test, do every edit, and take our own photos and videos. AI may help us draft, but the judgment is ours.
